Joel Griffen (Griffin) Ball, born June 17, 1840 in the town of Elizabeth, Jo Daviess County, Illinois, was the son of John Blackwell Ball and Eliza Y. Long. He married Nancy E. Wilson March 31, 1861 in Jo Daviess County. They had seven children together. (Children are listed under the memorial for his wife Nancy).
After Nancy died December 20, 1880 he remarried to Lucy Pimperton August 29, 1883. Together they had Amanda and Melvilla, who both died young, and Anna E. Ball who married Royal E. Finkenbinder.
