Officer Anderson was shot when he and another officer responded to a suicidal person call after a female called the police department and stated her boyfriend was going to kill her and then commit suicide. Officer Anderson arrived on the scene and was shot through the door as the officers knocked on it. The suspect was apprehended after a gunfight with officers.

Officer Anderson succumbed to his injuries six weeks after being shot. He had been with the agency for five years and was survived by his wife and two children.

He began his career as the first Cadet for the Wayne P.D. He was then hired full time as a police officer by my father, Walter D. MacGregor. He was a hell of a good baseball player too.
