Actor, Comedian, Film Director. He was a comedic chubby actor who was best known for playing the character roles of assassins, party guests, policemen, soldiers, actors, farmers, fathers, businessmen, landlords, husbands, widowers, valets, and butlers, in both silent films and sound fiilms, usually classic westerns or comedies. He will be best remembered as one of Mack Sennett's original Keystone Kops. He will also be best remembered for playing the role of 'Paul von Hindenburg' in the film comedy, "Yankee Doodle In Berlin" (1919). The film which was produced and written by Mack Sennett, which was directed by F. Richard Jones, and which also starred Bothwell Browne, Marie Prevost, Eva Thatcher, Ford Sterling, Ben Turpin, and Malcolm St. Clair, takes place behind enemy lines, where Captain Bob White disguises himself as a woman in order to fool members of the German High Command, including the Kaiser himself. He was born one of two children as Egbert Thomas Roach in Washington, D.C. to Frank C. Roach (1867-1945), and his wife Jennie C. Pindar Roach (1874-), on August 21, 1891. He was educated locally and was drafted during World War I, but he never served. He began his acting career on the New York stage at the age of 17. He then headlined in the two-act musical farce "Louisiana Lou," and then spent several years in stock as a lead tenor. He also appeared on Broadway in New York City, New York, in the stage production of the play, as 'Tom' in "Little Miss Fix-It" (Apr 03, 1911, to December 1911). He eventually moved to Los Angeles, California, where he began appearing in films. He made his actual film debut playing the role of a 'Party Guest' in the comedy short film, "Fatty's Magic Pants" (1914). The film which was produced by Mack Sennett, directed by and starred Roscoe 'Fatty' Arbuckle, and which also starred Charley Chase, Minta Durfee, Glen Cavender, Dixie Chene, Harry McCoy, Phyllis Allen, Alice Davenport, Edward F. Cline, Slim Summerville, Frank Opperman, and Al St. John, tells the story of 'Fatty' who is looking forward to attending a formal occasion. But in order to go, he has to be properly dressed, and he encounters unexpected difficulties in getting himself ready. Besides, playing the role of a 'Party Guest' in the comedy short film, "Fatty's Magic Pants" (1914), and playing the role of 'Paul von Hindenburg' in the film comedy, "Yankee Doodle In Berlin" (1919), his many other other film credits include, "Universal Ike Junior At The Dance Of Little L.O."
