Walter Leerssen
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Eugene for Walter Leerssen of Eugene, who died Nov. 9 of age-related causes. He was 94.
A burial with military honors will be held at Rest-Haven Memorial Park in Eugene prior to the service, at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Visitation is from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at West Lawn Memorial Park.
Leerssen was born June 18, 1917, in Buffalo, Minn., to Henry and Martha Desens Leerssen. He married Marilou Simmons on June 27, 1948, in Newberg. She died in 1989. He married Eunice Plummer on Aug. 30, 1996, in Eugene.
He served in the Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart after being injured in Italy. He was a logger in Minnesota and Oregon, and owned a farm in Junction City.
Surivors included his wife; a son, Larry of Eugene; a daughter, RaNae Thomason of Eugene; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
