Aubrey Henry Easterly

Son of John F. and Elizabeth Easterly of Ava, Illinois, departed this life at his home in Herrin, Illinois on Friday evening, February 6, 1920, at 4:50 o'clock.

He was born at Ava October 4th, 1883. He grew to manhood near and in Ava; attended the public schools there, and on December 16th, 1906, was united in marriage with Miss Stella Lee, daughter of S. D. Lee, then of Ava, Illinois, but now living at Carbondale, Illinois. The first few months of their married life were lived at East St. Louis, Illinois.

From there they moved to Eldorado, Illinois, where he was connected with Mr. Herdy W. Talbott in the hardware and implement business. A little daughter, Bernyce Lee, was born to them while living there.

In 1908 he moved to Herrin where he has lived, except for a few years in Carbondale. Besides the daughter, two sons were born to them, Raymond Douglass, age 6, and Charles Norman, age 16 months.

Aubrey was attacked by the dreaded influenza on Saturday, January 31. Every aid was given that human hands and medicine could give, but all in vain. His sufferings were ended the following Friday evening when God took to his eternal rest.

When only twelve years of age, he with his brother, Leslie, were converted in a meeting held in Ava, and was baptized by Rev. Joe Meade and taken into the Baptist Church. After moving to Herrin he and his wife have been associated with the Christian Church of that city.

In a fraternal way he was a member of Herrin Prairie Lodge, No. 693, A. F. & A. Masons, also a member of Dale Local, United Mine Workers of America.

After short services at the home conducted by Rev. Brant of the Christian Church of Herrin, Illinois and under the auspices of the Herrin Prairie Lodge, No. 693, A.F. & A.M., his remains were brought back to his father's house Sunday evening. Funeral services were conducted at the Baptist church Monday, February 9th, 1920, at 1:30 p.m. by Rev. George A. Gordon, assisted by Rev. T. H. Evans and Rev. T. O. McMinn, and under the auspices of Dean Lodge, No. 833, A.F & A. Masons, W. L. Husband officiating, assisted by Chaplain Rev. G. A. Gordon, after which the remains were interred in the Ava Evergreen Cemetery beside his brother, Leslie, who preceded him to his Heavenly Home fifteen years ago.

Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn his departure a father and mother and brothers and sisters as follows: Mrs. Nora Talbott of near Jacob, Illinois; Mrs. Burch Stout of Sato, Illinois; Mr. Charles B. Easterly of Vergennes, Illinois; Mrs. Ida Brouillette of near Grimsby, Illinois; and Gordon G. Easterly of Harrisburg, Illinois, also numerous relatives and friends.
