John Chauncey Newsham was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. He attended S.J. Peters High School, and was a graduate of Loyola University. John was a Certified Public Accountant. A lifelong resident of New Orleans, John owned a Greek Restaurant called The Royal Oak Restaurant & Pub in Gretna. John married Julia Pappas on 16 June, 1966 in Memphis, TN. He is preceded in death by his son Christopher Chauncey Newsham; his father, Joseph Parkinson Newsham; his mother, Maud Newsham; his sister Mimi, and his brother, Eddie. John loved to play golf and was a Life Master Bridge Player. John had a glorious tenor voice and sang in the choirs of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and Rayne Memorial Methodist Church. He was a member of the New Orleans Opera Association, he was a Master Signer and a Member of the Men's Opera Club. John was also a member of the Confrerie de la Chaine de Rotisseurs; and the International Wine and Food Society. John is survived by his wife Julia; his sons and his daughter; his grandson and granddaughter. He is loved and missed by all who knew him.

Dad loved to golf, though he wasn't very good at it. He did win a few tournaments due to his high handicap. He loved to play cards, with bridge and poker being high on the list. Dad loved wine and gourmet food. He loved to travel and he loved to sing.
