In the early history of Westmoreland,New Hampshire,Elizabeth Howe is mentioned as the "Granny Howe" who,at one time,when the men were all away fighting Indians and she needed her corn to be hoed she got some rum,the custom of those times,and invited the neighboring women to come and help her attend to the corn.

Elizabeth outlived her husband,Daniel Howe by over 20 years.She was a true pioneer of the frontier women who surely over came many obstacle in the early settlement of Township #2 later known as Westmoreland,New Hampshire
