Jacob married Mary Danforth on 11 Feb 16 in Bristol, Bristol, MA.

They married on or before February 11, 1716, which is when her father deeded them 4 acres.

By trade Jacob was a blacksmith at Taunton, according to deeds.

A power of attorney was given to Jacob Barney of Taunton from Stephen Leonard of Hanover, June 24, 1724. Samuel Danforth, "for love of daughter Mary," gave an orchard, etc. to Jacob and Mary of Taunton, July 11, 1727.

In 1732, the settlements of boundaries of lands of Rev. Danforth mentions his son-in-law Jacob Barney and wife Mary.

On May 2, 1773, Mary Barney of Taunton, administrix of the estate of Jacob Barney of Taunton, sold a blacksmith shop in Taunton. Of the children of Jacob and Mary (Danforth) Barney, none of their births are of record. One record says he "had only a daughter, hannah;" however, it appears that he had at least four children (Hannah, Jacob, John, Mary) and perhaps others.
