When SARAH FRANCES "Fannie" VENABLE was born on January 28, 1847, in DeKalb, Missouri. Her father, JOSEPH, was 28, and her mother, ADELIA, was 27. After the Civil War, Joseph, a merchant, moved his family to Memphis to start a business selling building supplies.

She married RICHARD JACKSON RAWLINGS on June 16, 1873, in Memphis, Tennessee. They had seven children in 13 years. She lived for many years at 109 Edgewood next to Lenox School. At one point her husband Richard, a Confederate veteran and realtor, was the mayor of the town of Lenox before it was incorporated by Memphis. Her son Richard Jackson Rawlings and his family lived across the street from her on Edgewood.
