Demus was a fun loving man and was know in the Mulberry community as the "Dime" man because it was not unusual for him to hand out dimes to the young children when he came to town on Saturday.

SHELBY FUNERAL
SCHEDULED SUNDAY

Funeral services for Demus Shelby, 37 years old farmer living three miles north of Mulberry, who died Saturday at 2:10 A.M. at a Fort Smith hospital of injuries he suffered Oct. 24, in an auto-truck collision, will be conducted Sunday at 1:00 P.M.

Service will be conducted at the Mulberry city cemetery by Rev. J. A. Bourland, Baptist minister of Mulberry. Arrangements will be directed by the Felker-Dickerson Funeral home of Mulberry.

Shelby was a passenger in a pickup truck driven by his father-in-law, Selmer Jordan, of near Mulberry, which collided with the car of Boyd Formby, Mulberry, on U.S. highway 64 between Dyer and Mulberry. He suffered a brain injury, fractured right knee cap and a lacerated hand.

He and his father-in-law were returning to Mulberry, after spending the day at the West Fort Smith stockyards, at the time of the accident. A native of Franklin County, Shelby had lived near Mulberry most all his life.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Grace Shelby; a son, of the home; his mother; and several brothers and sisters.
