MORRIS, EVELYN DEAN BILLINGSLEY,90,died from heart failure on Saturday, April 3, 2010. She was born May 26, 1919 in Shannon, GA to Loral Tabitha Barker and Charles White Billingsley. After graduating from Piedmont High School in 1937, Evelyn went to Hillman Hospital School of Nursing in Birmingham where she met her husband and earned her RN degree in 1941. During World War II Evelyn traveled with her husband to military posts at Ft. Screven, GA and Carlisle, PA where she worked as a nurse in Chambersburg, PA. During the war her two daughters were born while her husband was stationed as an Army surgeon on the European Front. After the war, her son was born in 1946, and she reared her children and lived the rest of her life in Birmingham, AL. Evelyn's life was focused on her family whom she inspired, nourished, and loved above all else. Her motto was "Happiness is being with family." Evelyn was an excellent cook and her delicious food, her radiant smile, her warmth, and her personality brought much happiness to all she knew. Her tireless energy, unique charm and unselfishness to others left her with a devoted following of people from all walks of life who were touched by her thoughtfulness and abundant love. Evelyn was preceded in death in 2002 by her husband of 61 years, Dr. Henry Bradford Morris, and by her brother, Charles White Billingsley. She is survived by her children: Susan Morris Cameron, Atlanta, GA; Brenda Morris Dixon (Richard),Wilmington, N.C; and Henry Bradford Morris, Jr. (Renee), Maysville, GA; grandchildren: Andrew Christian Cameron, Eleanor Cameron Jones (Graham), Texys Virginia Morris, Henry Bradford Morris, III and William Franklin Morris; siblings: Joyce Uber, San Jose, CA; James Billingsley, Rye, NY, and many special relatives. She will be missed by many who will always remember how she personally touched their hearts. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 7 from 4-6 PM at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood. Graveside services will be at Sunrise Cemetery, Maysville, GA. Memorial contributions can be made to Shades Mountain Baptist Church's Senior Adult Ministries or to the Jimmy Hale Mission. The family would like to express their gratitude for the kind support that she received from her church members. They also want to recognize Dr. Raymond Browne and the St. Vincent's Hospital staff for their good care, and her sitters, Jean Harris and Taeesha Williams for the special love they provided during her long illness. THOSE WE HOLD MOST DEAR NEVER TRULY LEAVE US. THEY LIVE ON IN THE KINDNESS THEY SHOWED AND THE LOVE THEY BROUGHT INTO OUR LIVES. Birmingham News, 6 April 2010
