Giles, Grace Hitch age 97, of Maryville, passed away June 22, 2004 at University of Tennessee Medical Center. She was a charter member of Monte Vista Baptist Church. She was the oldest living graduate of Everett High School and attended Maryville College and the University of Tennessee. She was well known in our area as an avid bridge player, and the game to her was a source of entertainment and enjoyment, but was not her life. Her faith in God and her involvement in her Church and Sunday School class have given her the greatest joy. She retired from Alcoa having worked there 27½ years and was a member of Alcoas 25-Year Service Club. She was preceded in death by: Husband, Marvin Giles; Sisters, Jessie Stepp, Marie Hitch, and Johnie Hitch; Brothers, George, Jim, L.C. (Tom), Fred, and Walter Hitch. Survivors include: God-son, Curtis Patterson; Nephews, Jimmy Hitch, Harold Hitch, and Darrell Giles; Nieces, Tommie (Garland) DeLozier and Judy (Vernon) Shamblin. She is also survived by 13 great and 22 great-great-nieces and nephews; Sister-in-law, Helen Mason of Madisonville; Special friends, Susie Swanner, Peggy Brennen and The Gleaners Sunday School Class of Monte Vista Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 PM, Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at Smith Mortuary with service to follow at 8:00 PM with Rev. Bob Dalton officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Monte Vista Baptist Church, 1735 Old Niles Ferry Road, Maryville, TN 37803.
