U.S. Congressman. After graduating from high school, enlisted in the U.S. Army, underwent preliminary officer training and served in World War I. After the war, he graduated from the College of Law of the University of Idaho, in 1924, was admitted to the bar the same year and commenced to practice law in Moscow, Idaho. He was prosecuting attorney of Latah County, Idaho, (1926-34), special lecturer at the University of Idaho Law School, (1933-41), president of the Idaho State Bar Association, in 1940 and a member of the Idaho State Senate in 1941. During World War II, he served as a Colonel in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Legion of Merit. In 1947, he was elected as a Republican to the Eightieth Congress, serving until 1949. After leaving Congress, he served as general counsel, Post Office Department, (1954-58) and was a commissioner of the Interstate Commerce Commission, (1958-67). He died in retirement at age 84.
