North Carolina Governor, Continental Congressman. He was a member of North Carolina state legislature, in both the house of commons and state senate from 1777 to 1780, and again in 1782. He was then the Governor of North Carolina from 1780 to 1781. He was a member of the Continental Congress from North Carolina from 1782 until his death during a session in 1786. He was originally buried at St. Paul’s Churchyard in New York, but was reinterred in the family cemetery at Pembroke.
