Hugh Monroe Dies.
J. H. Monroe died at his home north of Neodesha Monday, February 12, 1912, at 6 o'clock a.m., of cancer of the throat, caused by the excessive use of tobacco, his illness covering a period of about eighteen months. His age was 50 years, 5 months, and 8 days.

James Hugh Monroe was born September 4, 1861, in Fulton County, Illinois. The 1880 Census shows him in Cottonwood Township, Adams County, Nebraska. In 1881 he came to Neodesha and on October 6, 1888, was married to Miss Mary Jane Stansbury, who survives him with two daughters, Lee, aged 20, and Helen, aged 15. He also leaves a brother Sam Monroe, who lived with him, another brother, Jefferson Monroe, of Des Arc, Arkansas, and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Stelkey of Sullivan, Indiana; Mrs. Margaret Pearson, of Terre Haute, Indiana; Mrs Sarah Ellis, of Palestine, Illinois. John Wilson (Buck) Monroe, who lives west of Neodesha, is a cousin.

Hugh Monroe was a good man, well respected and had many friends. He was a member of the Church of God. The bereaved ones have the deepest sympathy of all.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Neodesha Wednesday at 2 o'clock p.m., conducted by Rev. Bryant of Neosho Falls, Kansas, and interment was made in the Neodesha Cemetery, Old Addition, Block 1, Lot 76, in Space 3.
