History of Ritchie County (wv): By Minnie Kendall Lowther
GAMALIEL WALDO made the first settlement on the farm
that is known as the Flannagan homestead near the year 1815.
Traces of his old cabin Which stood only a few Hundred yards
from the present W. A. Flannagan residence, are still visible.

Mr. Waldo and his wife, Nancy Bartlett Waldo, came
from Harrison county and remained here until about the year1844, when they removed to Indiana with all their family, except three members who were established in homes of their own, and there they saw the last of earth.
