The Reverend Daniel Emerson was born at Holles, New Hampshire July, 1771 and was educated at Harvard University 1794. After studying law a short time he turned his attention to merchandise in which he was successful. But he relinquished his flattering worldly prospects to preach the gospel. Having been hopefully converted, he joined the church at Holles, 1802 and commenced his ministerial labors 1806 and was settled in this place October 14, 1807. He died November 6, 1808 leaving his much afflicted family and people to lament his sudden exit. His disposition was singularly mild, his deportment lovely, his judgments solid, his labors assiduous and his death triumphant.
