Philip Henry Jr. was born in Chicago on 28 Jul 1880 and died of diabetes in Washington on 17 Feb 1918. He graduated from West Point in the class of 1902, a classmate of Douglas MacArthur. He served as an attache to President Teddy Roosevelt, until he asked to be sent to an active unit in Arizona. He was a Major in the Army when he died. Philip married Isabel McGunnegle. They had two children, Philip Henry III (born Jul 1916) and Carlina (born 26 Mar 1914).
Philip Henry III was raised in Santa Barbara, CA after his father died and his mother remarried. It was there that he took his first flying lesson. When asked he declared that he had no aspirations for the military, but did join the Army Air Force as WWII broke out. He flew 76 missions over Europe as a pilot of a B-26 bomber. Philip married Adelaide Delamater Soles on 28 Mar 1941. They had no children. His war experiences bothered him greatly after the war, and he committed suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge on 11 Mar 1948.
Carlina Sheridan lived most of her life in Massachusetts (perhaps at the little cottage her father had built there) where she died on 23 Dec 1982. Her first husband was William Glasgow, whom she married during WWII. He did not return. They had a daughter, Isabel Glasgow. She then married Paul Cleveland McElroy in 1951 in Heidelberg, Germany. They had a son, which they named Philip Sheridan McElroy.
Carlina's first husband, Col. William J. Glasgow, USMA Class of 1927, was the scion of an old and distinguished Texas family. According to a West Point classmate, he had become smitten with Carlina Sheridan while she was still a teenager, but being 9 years her senior, had to wait to make her his bride, which he did on August 10, 1940. Their daughter Isabel was born at West Point the following year, just 4 days before the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served with great distinction as a staff officer during WWII, and was decorated by the French, Italian, and British governments. He died at 42 while on post-war duty in Japan, the victim of a heart attack. He was subsequently buried in El Paso, TX, the city founded by his great-grandfather.
