W. C. Capel owned a water mill near what is now named Capel Mill Road. The cemtery is across the road from where the mill was located. One of the mill stones has been placed on the side of the road with a plaque on it. In the 1850 Census Wilson Covington is listed as a member of the household. Wilson's mother, Elizabeth, was the daughter of W. C. Capel. She married Matthew Covington and they moved to Lannahesse, Georgia (Webster County). When he was killed by Indians, Elizabeth moved back to Richmond County, NC.
