Bio:

Loving First-Born Son of Edward James "Ted" Parker, of Woodstock, Oxford, Ontario, Canada and Alice Matilda Place Parker, of Wentworth, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada;

Grandson of John William Parker (of Brackley, Northamptonshire, England) and Mary E. Ogilvie Allan Parker (of Aberdeen, Scotland .... he was given his name in honor of his Grandmother's Allan Family) and of Edward Nelson Place and Annie Martha Gilders Place, both of Waterdown, Darlington, Ontario, Canada, and Step-Grandson of Anna Belle Jewell Place, of Norfolk County, Ontario, Canada .... John William Parker and Mary Allan Parker immigrated to Ontario, Canada with their infant daughter in 1883, and the remainder of their six children were born in Canada;

Great-Grandson of William George Parker, of London, England and Ann Colleby Parker, of Brackley, Northamptonshire, England, and of Willium Allan and Mary Ogilvie Allan, both of Aberdeen, Scotland; also of Alexander William Place and Mary Ann Burton Place, both of Norfolk, England, and of Samuel Thomas Gilders and Martha Ann Hunkin Gilders, both of England and who immigrated to Canada as children with their families;

Beloved Brother and Friend of John Sheldon "Jack" Parker and Joseph Alexander "Joe" Parker; Brother-In-Law of Vaudis Larson Parker;

Devoted Husband of Elizabeth Agnes "Beth" Wallace Parker, whom he married on November 14, 1940 in Los Angeles, California. They met a year earlier on a "blind date" and became engaged in April of 1940;

Deeply Loved and Cherished Father of Daughters Laura and Diane;

Cousin and Nephew to many.

Allan was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and immigrated to the United States with his parents and younger brother, Jack, in 1921. The Parker Family settled in Los Angeles, California, along with an Aunt, Jennie Parker Nelson, and shortly after, his Uncle, Dr. Joseph Parker, a Physician and Surgeon who would later deliver both of Allan's baby daughters. Allan's youngest brother, Joe, was born in Los Angeles in 1924, also delivered by their Uncle, Dr. Joseph Alexander Parker.

Allan attended John C. Fremont High School in Los Angeles in the years 1930, 1931 and 1932 .... he was a member of the Track Team and jumped the High Hurdles.

Growing up in Canada with stories told by his Grandmother about the exploits of her Allan Shipping Lines family in Scotland, Allan had a deeply imbedded love of the Sea and wanted to be a part of that world. Leaving High School, he signed on as a Mariner and spent the rest of his life on merchant ships, traveling to ports all over the world. He was a Merchant Marine during World War II, was transferred for a time to the Navy as an Officer, then returned to the Merchant Marines for the duration of the War. He worked as a member of the Deck crew, earning his Third Mate, then Second Mate and finally, 1st Mate's Licenses. He was a long-time member of The Masters, Mates and Pilots Union, belonging to the San Francisco Chapter at the time of his death.

Allan became a Naturalized Citizen of the United States on December 23rd, 1938.

Even though the Sea was his first love, he also loved horses; during the late 1940's and early to mid 1950's, Allan and Beth kept their horses on their property in California and were active members of the Wranglers, a group of horsemen and horsewomen in Castro Valley and Hayward. Allan would ride in parades when he was at home between his ship assignments and could often be found out in the corral or grooming his horses and repairing fences.

He passionately loved his wife and daughters and was devoted to his parents, his brothers and his friends. He loved books and music and his favorite records would be playing any time he was at home from his ocean voyages. Like his Father, he also did carpentry work, building furniture for his wife and daughters, as well as intricate models of the ships he sailed on.

Allan Edward Parker..... Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Grandson, Nephew, Cousin and Friend..... he loved his family and he loved everything about his life. He died on 26 July, 1957, while on a cross-country road trip, having taken time off from his travels at sea. He had just celebrated his 42nd birthday. He was brought back from Nevada to California for the funeral service and he is buried at Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Concord, California.

His legacy lives on in all of the lives he touched....as well as in the lives of the Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren he never had a chance to know......but they all know about him and about his values and accomplishments.

We lost him much too soon.

We are grateful to this website for giving us another chance to honor his memory.
