U.S. Congressman. He attended Union Male Academy, engaged in mercantile pursuits and served with the South Carolina Militia, during the Civil War. After the war, he was a delegate to the State constitutional convention in 1867 and upon the readmission of the State of South Carolina to representation, he was elected as a Republican to the Fortieth Congress, serving (1868-69). Not a candidate for re-nomination, he served as member of the board of commissioners of Union County, (1871-74) and was Postmaster of Union, South Carolina, (1875-84).
