William enlisted 7 Oct 1863 at age 18 and mustered in five days later as a PVT in Co. M, 11 VT INF. He was promoted to Corp. 25 Jun 1864, wounded at Petersburg VA 2 Apr 1865 and mustered out 25 May 1865. He was a Baptist minister ordained 12 Jun 1873 and it is known he was pastor at Whitingham VT in 1873-74 and at the First Baptist Church, Bristol VT from May 1877 to May 1882.
