Louisiana Governor. He studied law, was admitted to the Missouri bar in 1861, and established a legal firm in Lebanon, Missouri. During the Civil War, he served as Lieutenant Colonel of the 32nd Missouri Infantry, Union Army. In 1864, Warmoth was ordered to the Department of the Gulf, where General Nathaniel P. Banks appointed him judge of the Gulf Provost Court in New Orleans, Louisiana. After the war, he set up a law practice in New Orleans, where he focused on legal issues raised by the Union occupation. Entering politics after Louisiana was readmitted to the Union in 1868, he was elected as a Republican, the 23rd Louisiana Governor. For his role in fraudulent election activity, Warmoth was impeached but never brought to trial. All charges were expunged, and he remained until his term ended in 1872. After leaving office, he served as a member of the Louisiana legislature (1876-1877), was a member of the Louisiana State Constitutional Convention in 1879, and served as the New Orleans Collector of Customs (1890-1893).
