William was the eldest s/o James Crawford & Helen Ann McDonald of Douglas, Lanarkshire, Scotland. He was the first of eight children, of whom only four survived to adulthood, Alex 1875-1936 Bloomingfontain, South Africa, James 1881-1961 Springfield, MA, and Marion 1883-1945 Douglas, Scotland. He immigrated USA (Ellis Island,New York on board the "SS Furnesia")May 1906 with his wife and 4 children arriving abt year later (Ellis Island, New York, "SS Columbia"). He married Jane Bunton McReady, d/o James Brown McReady & Mary Currie in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland on 1 July 1898. Jane and children, James 1899, Mary Currie 1900, William Donaldson 1903, Thomas McReady 1905, joined William Sr. thru Ellis Island in July 1907. Last child Alexander McDonald "Doug" was born 1908 in Wingdale,Dutchess County, NY where the family resided. William was a Master Stonemason in NY and MA. who worked on the Memorial Ave Bridge connecting Springfield, to West Springfield, MA. Wife Jane died from Typhoid Fever Sept 1909, Wingdale,NY and is buried there. William remarried August 1912 in Wingdale, NY to Elizabeth Willoughby, d/o Charles Willoughby & Sarah Nelson of Penningham Parish, Wigtownshire, Scotland. The couple moved from Wingdale, NY to Springfield, MA and raised William's young children. His 1st wife Jane is buried in Wingdale, NY, with William and his 2nd wife Elizabeth buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, along with some of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sibs, and many other family members. William and Jane's youngest child, Alex McDonald "Doug" Crawford died in St. Petersburg, Florida 13 March 1985 with his cremated ashes scattered at sea in Clearwater, Florida. William and 1st wife Jane Bunton McReady Crawford have been memorialized on the Ellis Island, NY Wall of Remembrance, Plaque on Panel #593, by great-granddaughter Margaret Evelyn Brown Fearn of California.
