A native of Folsom, California, he was born on November 3, 1919, and later attended the Folsom High School in 1936 before attending Sacramento City College in 1937 and 1938. He played a total of 5 major league seasons, and his career batting average was .266. He later coached the Fair Oaks American Legion to a North Division Championship in 1967, which featured Chicago Cubs manager Dusty Baker. From 1981 to 2003, he also scouted for the Chicago Cubs.
