She was born Verda Maxine Hayes on Oct. 5, 1913, in Smith County and was a resident of Smith Center since 1974, moving from the Gaylord area. She was a homemaker and member of American Lutheran Church, Smith Center.
Survivors include her husband, August of the home; three sons, Dean, Wayne and Earl; a daughter Lelah Henning; a brother, Max Hayes; two sisters, Maxine Kennedy and Theresa Kozak; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at American Lutheran Church, Pastor Katherine Yarnell officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Smith Center.
Memorials may be made to the church.
Visitation will be until 10 a.m. Wednesday at Simmons Mortuary, Smith Center, KS.
