Iola Margaret Devine, of Rochester Hills, died on November 17, 2011 at Crittenton Hospital, Rochester, Michigan. She was the loving wife of the late Lawrence Devine, and mother of Ellen Devin, Ann (Karl) Devin, Michael (Jan) Devine, Ruth (Michael) Dwyer, Joseph (Denise) Devine, Rita (Barry) Trebble and Veronica (Daniel) Smith. She was the grandmother of Lawrence E. Herweyer, David P. Herweyer, Lincoln G. Herweyer, Amy Jo Devine, Eric Devine, Emily Devine, Joseph Devine, Jr., Sarah Devine, Bryan Peel, Gregory Peel, Joseph Smith, Lisa Smith, Dawn Steckroth, Adam Trebble and John Robinson. She was the great-grandmother of Andrew, Amanda, Amy, and Alex Herweyer, Lecadia and Elsabeth Herweyer, Megan and Justin Steckroth, and Emily, Madelyn, Hannah and Drew Robinson. She had four great-great grandchildren, Brooklyn Rose Devine, Cadence, Jacob, Owen and Calli Herweyer. Iola's funeral will be held on November 19, 2011 at 10:00a.m. at St. John Fisher University Chapel, 3665 Walton Blvd., Auburn Hills, Michigan and will be celebrated by Father Jerome Brzezinski. Visitation Friday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Pixley Funeral Home, 322 W. University Dr., Rochester. She will be laid to rest at the Christian Memorial Cemetery in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Iola was born August 9, 1915 in Pine Township, Michigan to William and Lena Jorgensen. She was one of eight children and is survived by her sisters, Dorothea Ellsworth, Geraldine Christiansen, Jean Zimmerman, and Evelyn Jorgensen as well as brothers William Jorgensen and Ned Jorgensen. She was preceded in death by her sister Hazel Smith. A lifelong educator, Iola begin teaching elementary school in 1935 in a rural school in the township of Sidney, Michigan She retired in 1985 from the Troy School District where she taught for 20 years.
