John Kluge, 73, former mayor of Greenport, died on Monday at this home on Main Street, Greenport. A resident of that community since 1910, Mr Kluge was elected Mayor on the Democratic ticket in 1927 and, excepting the years 1933-39, he served in that post until 1947 when he retired.
He was a Mason, a Shriner and a a charter member of the Greenport Club.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs Winifred Wells Kluge, three sons, Walter, Frederick and John Kluge, Jr; two brothers, Daniel and William Kluge; a stepson, Russell Wells, and a stepdaughter, Mrs Reginald Adams.
Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon of this week at the Horton Funeral Home.
