Obituary, Tribune, Dec. 14,1925, Mrs. Berkebile Born Here In 1834, Dies In Pittsburgh: deceased was a sister of Mrs. Matilda Benshoff, Widow of J.Q.A. Benshoff: Burial On Wednesday: Mrs. Julia Ann (Arthur) Berkebile, identified with one of Johnstown's oldest families, died Saturday evening at the home of her son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. J. Harris Letsche, 416 South Linden Ave, Pittsburgh, where she had made her home for many years. Her husband who was a pioneer pattern maker for the Pennsylvania Railroad Company died in Pittsburgh in 1916. He was a Pensy pensioner for a number of years before his demise. Funeral services for Mrs. Berkebile will be held at the Letsche residence tomorrow evening by the pastor of the Point Breeze Presbyterian Church, the funeral party to arrive here on the 2:04 train on Wednesday afternoon The service at the grave in Grandview Cemetery will be in the charge of the rev. Dr. Henry W. Snyder, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Julia Ann Berkebile was born on the Arthur homestead along the Frankstown Road on what is now known as the Wisnour Farm in Conemaugh Twp. She was the daughter of John Arthur II and Mrs. Mary (Oren) Arthur. Her father was born in Bedford Co in 1793 and died here at the Arthur home on Somerset St in 1876. His wife was born in York Co. in 1798 and died here in 1884. Mrs. Berkebile was one of a family of 9 children and is the 8th to pass away. Her surviving sister is Mrs. Matilda Benshoff, widow of J.Q.A. Benshoff, now residing on the Berkey Road Roxbury. Mrs. Benshoff is in her 95th year. Mrs. Julia Ann Arthur and Joseph Berkebile were married in this city Oct 5,1854, besides her sister, Mrs. Berkebile is survived by her daughter, Julia, wife of J. Harry Letsche; 3 grandchildren: Herman B. Smith, J.R Letsche, Jr. and Mrs. Potter G. Polk and 2 great-grandchildren These brothers and sisters preceded Mrs. Berkebile to the grave, Thomas Arthur in Oct 1893; Mrs. Nancy (Arthur) Seigh in July 1890; Mrs. Elizabeth (Arthur) Maneely in Mar. 1894; John Arthur, 3rd in Dec. 1909; Eve (Arthur) Peden in Jan. 1913 and Samuel Arthur in May 1902 all of them of this city, and Mary Ann (Arthur) Baltzy or Bosley, at Moses Home in Chicago, IL. on Mar. 1,1925 d the age of 97. Mrs. Berkebile was a member of the Lutheran Church here many years ago and worshipped in the original structure that stood on the old Levergood property on Franklin St, 4tfa Ward but since going to Pittsburgh she was united with the Point
