John D. Brown was either born in Ireland or South Carolina in 1784. He moved with his family to Missouri in the 1830s and lived there until 1841-1845 when he received Head Rights to the Republic of Texas and moved with his son Alexander and his family to Titus County Texas. He was married to Anna Lahney Anderson, Nancy Anderson, and Elizabeth (maiden name unknown). His son Alexander and daughter Elizabeth both married Marshall siblings, Sarah & George who were also from South Carolina. The website www.pettiscountypioneers.com has a few letters from the Browns in Titus County to their Marshall relatives back in Missouri.

John is said to have been buried in Shiloh Cemetery, which is near Ripley Creek, in the Ripley community but there is no headstone.
