Lillie L. Brown, 97, a longtime Norfolk resident, died May 17, 1999, at Beth Sholom Home in Virginia Beach.
Born in Surry County, N.C., in 1901, she was the widow of Ivey W. Brown, to whom she was married for 66 years prior to his death in 1984. She was also preceded in death in 1995 by her eldest child and only daughter, Margaret McCombs Coots and her husbands, Floyd B. McCombs Jr. and Herman D. Coots.
She and her husband were residents of Hampton Roads since 1941. She was a member of various Methodist churches over the years but was most recently a member of First Presbyterian Church in Norfolk where she attended with her granddaughter, Emily.
She is survived by three sons and their wives, George and Mary Brown of Norfolk, Bill and Fay Brown of Culpeper, and Robert and Roslyn Brown of Norfolk; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. today atForest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk, by Chaplain Robert H. Warren, U.S. Navy, retired. The family will receive friends afterward at 418 Pembroke Ave., Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Beth Sholom Home of Eastern Virginia, where she was lovingly tended in her final years, or to a charity of one's choice. Altmeyer Funeral Home, Virginia Beach, is in charge.
