America Jane Jennings was the daughter of Israel Jennings, Jr. aka Israel Jennings, III. and Ann McClure (Davidson) Jennings. She was born in Marion County, Illinois and married George W. Gilley 22 March 1860. (Illinois Statewide Marriage Index, Clinton County). She and her husband were listed on the 1860 and 1870 Clinton County, IL census reports with Abner Gilley, b. ca. 1813 in Tennessee. The 1870 report also lists Abner, age 8 and William, age 4. A Clinton County, Illinois genealogy web site records her burial in the Old Carter Cemetery. She died 2 March 1875, with an infant daughter Gilley recorded on the "same stone as America." America's own mother died had shortly after her birth, and her father, who was left with 7 children, remarried the following year.
