Grandmother to Ken, Kim, Kelly, and Jodi
Great Grandmother to Jason, Jaimi, Alex, Michelle, Briahna, Jessica, Mitchell, Amanda, Nicole and Josh
Preceded in death by ex-husband Al; husbands Harry, Jim, and Ike; son Jerry; grandsons Jason and Mitchell; granddaughter Jodi.
Grandma was a piece of genuine Americana. Feisty and opinionated, she could still love the most unlikely people (though she had a tough protective instinct if you hurt someone she cared about).
By force of will and much hard work, she raised herself up from very rural Ohio roots to a more-than-respectable life in California and Oregon. Working mostly as a waitress, she watched how her customers conducted themselves, and learned the manners and practices of those she respected. Still, she never outgrew the love of off-color humor, or the ability to embarrass her family members.
To the end a trooper, she had always wanted to see the year 2000 ushered in. On that New Years Eve, she celebrated with family at a restaurant and the house of her son, Bob. Within a few days, her health began a rapid decline and she passed just nineteen days later.
In her lifetime, she could remember the first airplane and automobile she ever saw, and she witnessed on live television as Neil Armstrong made the first moonwalk. For some forty or fifty years, she always drove a Cadillac - both for the love of luxury and as a symbol of accomplishment.
