Martin was a twin to Ora Virginia West (Reynolds)and was one of six children born to Isaac Thomas West and Mary C.Bearden (West). He served in the Mississippi National Guard and in the U.S.Army during the days of WW1.He worked as a painter and also farmed with his sister's family. He kind of bounced around from place to place and was later hospitalized at The Mississippi State Hospital,at Whitfield Mississippi. He died there after a lengthly illness, of seven months and 13 days. He was hard of hearing and to some would appear to be dim-witted but in fact he was a very smart person, having the ability to read and write and do general math.It was just recently found the date and place of his death. He had a good sense of humor and when some one was telling him a tall tale, he would reply,"That is a small ice berg, good buddy they get larger further on down the road".He was preceeded in death by both parents, two sisters and one brother, and was survived by sisters Ora Virginia (West)Reynolds of MinterCity Ms.,and Annie Pearl (West) Hill of Grenada Ms.
