Mrs. Bertha Marie Johnson was born March 1, 1871 in Germany. In 1890 she migrated to Buffalo, NY, where she was united in marriage with John S. Johnson. To this union was born 7 children, one boy and six girls, two of which (Marie and Lucy) preceded their mother in death.
In 1894 they came to Lincoln County and in 1903 to Charles Mix County, settling on a farm southwest of Platte where they have lived since.
Mrs. Johnson had enjoyed health until Monday, August 5th when she stepped on a nail. She was taken to the Mitchell hospital Thursday and died Saturday about midnight from blood poison.
She leaves to mourn her death, her husband and son, Fred; 4 daughters: Mrs. Fred Murray of Mitchell; Mrs. Fred Meistad, Mrs. Frank S. Johnson, and Helen of Platte, SD; together with many relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Norwegian Lutheran church on Tuesday, August 13th at 1:00 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Luthro. Interment was made in the New Platte cemetery.
