Leona Irene (Lee) Nuessen, 80, of McPherson, Kansas passed away on Sunday, 20 November 2011 while in the company of family members at Cedars House, McPherson, Kansas.

Leona was born in Marion, Kansas on 27 May 1931, the daughter of the late George L. and Florence I. (Olson) Perry.

She attended schools in Missouri. She and Leonard had been members of the All Saints Catholic Church in Wichita, Kansas.

At passing, Leona was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Wichita, Kansas.

She worked as a laboratory technician at Roche Biomedical Laboratory in Wichita, Kansas.

Leona was a member of an EHU, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, served as a girl scout leader,and the Cardinals Travel Association. Her interests included traveling in the RV, especially to their spot in Apache Junction Arizona, playing cards and trying out new recipes while humming to her favorite tunes, one of them being Amazing Grace.

On 3 Nov 1948 she was married to Charles Herbert Hawk in Springfield, Greene, Missouri. They had two sons, Harold and Leon. On 15 Nov 1953, she married John Deloss Barton in Wichita, Sedgwick, Kansas. They had two daughters Judy and Annette.

She was married to Leonard Michael Nuessen on 5 August 1961 in Miami, Oklahoma and he resides in McPherson, Kansas. (Later in the marriage, Leonard adopted the three children.) Other survivors include two sons, Harold Nuessen and wife, Carole, of Gatesville, Texas; Leon Nuessen and wife, Carolyn, of Gravette, Arkansas, and her daughter, Judy Macy and husband, Mike, of McPherson, Kansas; two brothers, Wayne Perry of Franklin, Texas, and Floyd Perry of Wichita, Kansas; sister-in-law, Sharon Perry of Austin, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Annette Louise Barton, a brother,George Stanley "Stan" Perry, a grandson, Curtis, and a great grandson, Blake, two sister-in-laws, Jean Perry and Virginia Perry.

Visitation will be from 5pm to 7pm, Thursday, 24 November 2011 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Glidden-Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, McPherson, Kansas, at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, 25 November 2011 with Fr. Dwight Birket officiating.

Interment will follow at 4:00 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery Wichita, Kansas officiating was Fr. H. Setter of All Saints Catholic Church.
