U.S. Congressman. Successful in agricultural pursuits, he was auditor of Coshocton County, (1821-38), a member of the Ohio State House of Representatives, (1838-40), clerk of Coshocton County, (1843-51) and served as a Major General in the Ohio State Militia. In 1857, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-fifth Congress, serving until 1859. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was probate judge of Coshocton County and engaged in the drug business until his death at age 75.
