VIRGIL/VIRGAL L. PENCE was born 15 Oct 1876 in Louisville, Kentucky. He died 25 July 1962 in Hermosa Beach, California.

He married Ivay Smith in 1899 at West Plains, Missouri. Ivay was born 6 May 1881 in Missouri, and died May 19, 1962 at the age of 81 in Los Angeles County, California, the daughter of Edward Moore Smith and Mary Jane Wilson. They were in Crawford County, Kansas in 1920 and he registered for the World War I draft there. He and Ivay are buried in Whittier, California, in the Rose Hills Memorial Park. Virgil died two months after the passing of his wife.

They farmed just outside of Pittsburg, Kansas, at a place called Meadowbrook Farm until about 1943 when they moved to California.

Children:

MYRTLE RUTH PENCE was born Dec 9, 1899 in Howell, Missouri. She married James Dewey Watson and they had two children: Rosemary and Reta Mae Watson. Myrtle passed away March 25, 1980 at the age of 80 in Yucca Valley, California.

CARLOS Jasper "CJ" Pence was born Dec. 30, 1902 in Kansas. He married Dica Laverne Barrett in 1924 (she was born Dec 24, 1906, in Kansas). He and Laverne were in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1930. CJ fathered four children: Glennyce Ilene, Kenneth Allen, Robert Virgil, and Carlos George Pence. He died September 22, 1984 at the age of 81 in Ottawa, Kansas, and is buried there in the Highland Cemetery.

GLADYS MAE PENCE was born 26 May 1904 in Missouri (according to census; death record gives Kansas); died at the age of 76 on 14 Oct 1981 in Orange County, California. She married George William Bellamy and they had a daughter, Donna Ruth, in 1934, who passed away at the age of 75 on January 23, 2010 in Anaheim, California.

DOROTHY DELL PENCE was born Feb 13, 1909, in Mulberry, Kansas. She married Conrad Halberstadt Lange and had three children: Gloria, Conrad Phillip and Lana Lange. After she died (date unknown) her ashes were scattered in the Joshua Tree National Park, as were her husband's.

OTHAL ELLSWORTH "Dan" PENCE was born Dec. 29 1913 in Croweberg, Kansas. He married Mary Ophelia Share on May 28, 1941. They had 3 children: Carolyn Margaret and twins Patrick John "Pat" and Patricia Ann Pence. Dan passed away December 3, 1987, in Fort Scott, Kansas, at the age of 73 and is buried in the Fort Scott National Cemetery.

OPAL MARGARET PENCE, twin sister of Othal, was also born Dec. 29, 1913 in Croweburg, Kansas. She married Wilbur Harry Williams and had one daughter, Linda Dea Williams, born 1941. Opal died May 12, 2004 in Des Moines, Iowa at the Taylor House Hospice. Wilbur died May 31, 2004 at the age of 96 in Altoona, Iowa.

WINIFRED LAVON "Winnie" PENCE was born JUNE 26, 1916 in Mulberry, Kansas. She was married James E. Wilson on October 13, 1935, in Pittsburg, Kansas, by Rev. Dyre Campbell, minister, 712 N. Catalpa in Pittsburg. They had three children: John Michael, James E. and Susan Kathleen. Winnie died October 6, 2010 in Burlington, Washington, at the age of 94.

GENEVA GRACE "Ginger" PENCE was born January 29, 1919,in Pittsburg, Kansas, and graduated in 1937 from Pittsburg High School. She married Andrew Braidwood "Bud" Fulton on October 15, 1938, a year after graduating. They had four children: James Andrew, Jack Richard, Joyce Kay, and Jay Alan Fulton. Bud died July 18, 1976 at the age of 58 while they were on a motorcycle trip to Arkansas. Ginger passed away at the age of 84 at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Kansas, on October 27, 2003 due to Alzheimer's. She is buried next to the love of her life, Bud Fulton, in the Pittsburg, Kansas, Highland Park Cemetery.

LEON LESTER PENCE was born January 11, 1911 in Croweburg, Kansas. He passed away on October 3, 1915 in Pittsburg, Kansas, due to complications from appendicitis. He is buried in the Shiloh Cemetery, Liberal, Missouri.
