Word comes to us that Bid Alderman,
son of Madison, was drowned in the Kickapoo River on Wed; last. He lives on the west bank of the river a short distance above the North Star Post Office and started to cross the river on the ice to return a borrowed saw belonging to a neighbor when the ice gave way, precipitating him into the water. His wife stood on the bank a short distance away, but could render no assistance and he drowned before her very eyes. Mr. Alderman was a well known civil citizen and there are many whose sympathies extend to the sorely afflicted
