Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Village Chapel for Eddie B. Collins, 70, Gadsden, who died Sunday, July 11, 2010. The Rev. Charles Beshears will officiate.

Burial will be at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Village Chapel Funeral Home and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Collins was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Cuban Crisis, and he retired from Gadsden State Community College in the upholstery department. He was a member of Dwight Masonic Lodge No. 904.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved Alabama football, NASCAR racing and fishing. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Vasalee Collins; father, Eddie Bascum Shipman; and grandparents, John Henry and Afray Duke.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Virginia Collins; daughters, Deborah (Danny) Works, Linda (Benji) Mashburn and Cheryl (Pierce) Harp; grandchildren, Ben Mashburn, Kristin (Shawn) Kilgro, Emily Mashburn, Jessica (Steven) Anderson, Destiny Works, Anna Harp and Chandler Harp; great-grandson, Tanner Kilgro; sister, Frances (Larry) Cushing; and numerous nieces, nephews and special aunts.
Special thanks to CCU staff at Riverview Regional Medical Center, Drs. Harper and Amin, and family members for all their time, love and compassion.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
