Samuel was the son of John McLarty Jr. and Martha White McLarty. He married Mary Elizabeth Hildebrand on Feb. 24, 1850 in Carroll County, GA. He served as a private in Co. C of the 30th Georgia Infantry, enlisting Aug. 6, 1862 in Calhoun, Georgia. He died from cancer in 1901.
