Funeral services for J. Vernon Chancellor, 74, a Muncie resident until he moved to Grants Pass, Ore., in 1950, will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Parson Mortuary. Burial will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery. Dr. Arthur W. McDavitt will be in charge. Friends may call at the mortuary after 7 p.m. Sunday.
Mr. Chancellor died early Wednesday at his home in Grants Pass after an extended illness. He was a native of Kansas. He came to Muncie in 1910 and was engaged in business with his brother here for several years. He was chief mechanic at the city garage during the Ira Wilson and John Hampton administrations in the late 1930's and early 1940's.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth; two daughters, Mrs. Vernon Ruble, Winchester, and Mrs. Oliver Lutton, Muncie; two sons, Ewing Chancellor, Muncie, and Darrell Chancellor, Chicago; a brother, O.E. Chancellor, Grants Pass; seven grandchildren, Lynetta, John and James Lutton; Mrs. Jacqueline Jensen, Mrs. Judith Wimmer, Margaret Ruble and Richard Chancellor; and two great grandchildren.
