Harold Edward Amundson was born on September 20, 1921, in the Turtle Mountains at Dunseith, North Dakota to Haagen Amundson and his wife, Ellen Anna Vedaa Erickson, the youngest of six siblings. His parents immigrated from Norway and settled in North Dakota. He grew up on the family farm, hunting and trapping to help with family needs.
Harold went to fight in WWII. He became a decorated veteran for his valor in the face of the enemy. After the war he returned home to farm. He met Mildred Hudson, of Rolla, ND. They were married January 24, 1947.
Harold and Millie raised a daughter, Sharon and a son, David. They moved to Spokane, Washington. Harold worked for Kaiser Aluminium until his retirement in 1983. They bought a fifth-wheel trailer and enjoyed traveling together all over the U.S. Health issues developed, which encouraged them to stay closer to home and family. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Millie; daughter, Sharon (Fred) Buffaloe of Hayden, Idaho; son, David (Maralou) Amundson of League City, Texas; ten grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant brother, Arnie in 1903; brother, Ernest; and sisters, Alpha Gunderson, Gudrun Watkins Wood, Helen Watkins Nelson and Dagney Haagenson.
Harold served his Jesus well and now rejoices in Heaven. He was loved and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
A memorial service was held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Spokane, Washingtin on Saturday, January 15, 2011. Harold was laid to rest with military honors at Greenwood Memorial Terrace in Spokane, Washington.
