Orrin Deloss Goodrich

O D Goodrich, of Malcom, died at his home Tuesday, Oct 21 of pneumonia. The body was brought to Grinnell Wed afternoon for interment in the Hazelwood Cemetery. The deceased was 81 years and 8 days old.

He was born in Iowa Co, WI, 23 Feb 1832, and settled on a farm near Malcom. With the exception of 5 years spent in Iowa County, he was a continuous resident of this county since 1858.

11 Nov 1859 he married Miss Jane Walls, who died 15 Jul 1896. To this union 12 children were born, 4 dying in infancy. Of the remaining 8, two are dead, Lucius Goodrich, who passed away 4 Jun 1895, Mrs Edwin (Edith Almira) Stilwell, 12 Dec 1912. Surviving are Mrs Julia Eichorn of Malcom, Hiram Goodrich of Lucas Co, IA, Ellis and George Goodrich of Ida Grove, Ira Goodrich of Grinnell and Mrs Addie Billick of Malcom.

O D belonged to the pioneer element of Iowa although he wasn't born in the state. He was one of the thousands who in early days cast his lot to come here and under trying circumstances helped to point the way to great achievements. His life was full of the experieces of the early settlers who kept the faith and lived to see these ___ ?? ___ changes. He was a good citizen, indulgent parent and had many warm friends who will regret to learn of his death.
