"Early Resident Dies
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary McDannel were held Tuesday at two o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ethel Martin, in Hastings and burial was made in Phillips cemetery. In her passing another early resident of the county is called.
March 7, 1878, the deceased was united in marriage to B. F. McDannel in McLean county, Illinois. In 1880, Mr. and Mrs. McDannel took up a homestead in Hitchcock county but the same year they moved to Atlantic, Iowa, where they resided until 1888 when they returned to Nebraska, locating near Phillips. In 1887 they moved to the farm four miles northwest of Giltner where they remained until 1909 when they moved to Hastings. Mr. McDannel passed away in March, 1918, and Mrs. McDannel continued to make her home there until her sudden death last Friday morning, June 10th, at the age of 78.
She leaves to mourn her loss three sons, August L. McDannel and Clarence O. McDannel of Caldwell, Idaho. Fred of Central City, one daughter, Mrs. Ethel Martin, one brother, Wm. Starbuck of Lincoln, and one sister from Oklahoma, all of whom were present for the funeral. Besides these she leaves other relatives and a host of friends.
