She grew up in Atlanta, spending her childhood on Lombardy Way and her teen years in Brookwood Hills and Sea Island. Her Agnes Scott College years were also spent in Brookwood Hills as well as at Peachtree Circle in Ansley Park. After graduating from Agnes Scott, Jule taught fourth grade at the Lovett School, followed by a career in advertising.
Jule married Commander Russell Jones Brooke, USN, October 10, 1946 and they became the parents of Russell J. Brooke, Jr; Dr. Marvin McClatchey Brooke, and Julia Neel Brooke. Jule's husband predeceased her. She was survived by her brother, Marvin Reynolds McClatchey, Jr, her three children, four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
At her funeral, Jule's family distributed to her many friends and loved ones a booklet which contained stories and poetry Jule had written about her years growing up in Atlanta. She described watching a parade on Peachtree at Five Points from her office on the 7th floor of Muse's Advertising Department as well as vivid descriptions of going to various cemeteries with her parents around the Georgia area to visit the graves of her deceased relatives. Jule's father and mother taught her to appreciate her family's history.
That little booklet was a fitting commemorative for this lovely Southern woman who was so far ahead of her time in thoughts, ideas, and in her many achievements. Jule's son, Dr. Marvin Brooke, is our brother-in-law, a much admired and loved member of our family.
