Roy was born Nov. 7, 1932, in Barton, Neb., to William and Clara McCain, who brought him to the West Coast at the early age of 2. He went to be with our Father June 11, 2011, at the Oregon Heart and Vascular Institute in Eugene with his four daughters at his side.

He married Emma Jean Hester in February 1953 and started a family which gave him four devoted daughters.

Roy was a real entrepreneur. He started a milk distribution route, became a certified cheese maker, purchased property to start the McCain Strawberry Farm and raised cattle and sheep. Agriculture seemed to be in his blood. In 1975, Roy and Emma moved to the state of Washington to start McCain Trail Construction and built their new home and the Glenoma Trout Farm.

After surviving a plane crash in 1982, Roy used his rehab time to plan and build Maple Grove Resort and Golf Course in Randle, Wash. He sold the resort and retired for the first time. Roy was not a retiring man. He purchased Naco West Resort and transformed it into Cascade Peakes Resort and Golf Course in Packwood, Wash.

With his health starting to fail, he retired for the second time and moved to Coquille to lend a helping hand to his oldest daughter and her business and to fish the Coquille River.

Roy is survived by daughters, LeArla and Tom Jarvis of Myrtle Point, Maralee Park of Beaverton, Rhonda and Philip Coons of Keizer, and Karen Fuller of Randle; his nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Toups of Randle; former wife, Emma Jean McCain of Randle; Ruth Pence of Vancouver, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held for Roy L. McCain, 78, of Coquille at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at the Nazarene Church in Randle, Wash, followed by a potluck. A private interment was at Silverbrook Cemetery.
