Don D. Hunt was born on Dec. 14, 1927, in Walla Walla, Wash. At a very early age he and his family moved to Grand View, Idaho, where he was reared and educated. During his years in high school, the family moved to Nampa and Don graduated from Nampa High School in 1946. He married Shirley Gomer on May 6, 1949, and they made their home in Nampa. Don was employed at R & V Oil Co. and later as a mechanic for Barger Mattson Auto Salvage. He retired in 1989 and at that time he and Shirley moved to their log home in Cascade that Don built, where they have since resided. Don was a member of the Nampa Elks Lodge #1389 for a number of years. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and anything that involved the outdoors. He loved spending time with his family and always wanted to spend as much time with them as he could. He could make or do anything with his hands. He was always willing to help those around him. He had so many friends and would do anything to help them when they needed help. He was a man that loved telling stories around a campfire and enjoyed laughter. His family and friends will truly miss him.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Hunt, Cascade; his two daughters, Cyndi Drake and her partner Penny Gillaspy, Nampa and Treva Hunt and her partner Julee Elliott, Boise; three grandchildren, Randi Drake and her partner Rebecca Moore, Toronto, Canada, Roman and Kimberly Drake, Cascade and Nikki Drake, Brooklyn, New York; Donald and Shirley played an important role in raising their grandson, Roman; a very special niece, Marsha Harbig, Eagle; a brother and his wife, Paul and Esther Hunt, Tigard, OR; and a sister-in-law, Violet Hunt, in WA. He was preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers, including his twin brother, David.
