BYRDSTOWN, Tenn. - Francis E. Baker, 88, died Oct. 23, 2011, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

He was born March 2, 1923, in Rutland, Vt., the son of Quincy M. and Hazel Preedom Baker.

He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II.

Mr. Baker retired as senior volunteer program director, a member of the Hull York Chapter of Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, Pickett County Health Council and state director of Tennessee AARP Tax-Aide. He was also instrumental in establishing Upper Cumberland Area Agency on Aging and Disability.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie Wells Baker; three daughters, Lana Rossi, Norma Baker and Rebecca Baker; two sons, Francis Charles and Robert Dana Baker; a brother, Quincy Baker Jr. of Rutland, Vt.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Lynne Baker; a sister, Edna Lyman; and a brother, Edward Baker.

At his burial in Lovelady-Sims Cemetery in Byrdstown, the Disabled American Veterans provided military honors.
