Soldier's Remains Arriving Friday
The remains of T-5 Uno E. Annala 27, so of Mrs. Hilma Annala, route 1, Hurley, who was killed in action in World War II, will arrive here Friday morning under escort from the Chicago distribution center of the American graves registration service. Upon arrival here the remains will be escorted from the depot to the Nyberg-Miller funeral home. The Hurley post of the Veterans of Foreign War will accord the military rites. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the National Lutheran church with the Rev. Jacob Hirvi offciating. Interment will be in the Riverside cemetery. The war hero was born February 9, 1916 in Oma. Inducted into the army February 20, 1941 at Fort Sheridan, Ill., he was assigned to the second armored division and trained at Fort Benning, Georgia, going overseas to North Africa December 9, 1942. He saw combat action in North Africa, Sicily, France, and in the Battle of St. Lo, was Fatally wounded on July 29, 1944, and died the day. Surviving besides his mother are seven brothers, Einard Annala of San Franciso, Walter of Los Angels, Waino of Bessemer, John of Erwin township, Reino of Ashland, and Iver and Oscar at home, four sisters, Miss Mildred Annala, at home, Mrs. Kalerio Tuomari of Detroit, Mrs. Hubert Weems of Camp Hood, Texas and Miss Hilma Annala of Madison. His father, Matt Annala, died August 24, 1941. Friends may call at the Nyberg-Miller funeral home beginning Friday noon and until Saturday noon when the remains will be taken to the church to lie in state until the hour of service.
